NLC Resources for Cities

The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance.

  • Institute for Youth, Education & Families - National League of Cities launched the YEF Institute in January 2000 in recognition of the unique and influential roles that mayors, city councilmembers, and other local leaders can play in strengthening families and improving outcomes for children and youth.

  • Research & Analysis - Through its Center for Policy and Research, NLC provides an applied think tank capacity by developing, conducting, and reporting research on programs and issues affecting city and towns.

  • Leadership Training Programs - The National League of Cities is committed to strengthening and promoting the leadership capacity of our nations' local elected officials.  More than 3,000 mayors, council members, and local leaders participate in Leadership Training Institute seminars and programs designed to explore the nature and practice of local government leadership.
